Rooted in Los Angeles is a visual storytelling project that documents the people, neighborhoods, and cultural memory that shape the real Los Angeles through portraiture, interviews, and community voices.
Our Mission
Rooted in LA exists to tell stories through portraiture and interviews, bringing together community voices while giving young voices an opportunity to learn, connect, and grow with confidence. The project is both a creative platform and a living archive of local identity, built to preserve the stories that often go unseen in a city defined by constant change.
BACKGROUND
Rooted in Los Angeles was created to honor those lives and to document the people who continue to build, nurture, and sustain the city from within.
Through silkscreen portraiture, editorial interviews, and community storytelling, we create a living archive that challenges how Los Angeles sees — and tells — itself.

LA WOMAN
At the heart of the project is LA Woman — a series of large-scale 40×60 inch portraits created through silkscreen and mixed printmaking techniques.
The series celebrates strong women born and raised within the boundaries of Los Angeles whose creativity, activism, and quiet strength reveal the authentic heartbeat of the city.
By combining image, voice, and editorial storytelling, Rooted in LA creates space for memory, belonging, and intergenerational connection across Los Angeles communities.
